Claudia Ledesma, Katy Ledesma and Alejandra Canela Hospitalized in 2-Car Wreck at Avenue 7 and Road 24
MADERA, CA (January 29, 2019) – Three people suffered moderate to major injuries following a broadside collision at Road 24 and Avenue 7 Friday morning.
The two-car accident happened around 9:30 a.m. According to news reports, 27-year-old Claudia Ledesma and her 6-year-old daughter, Katy Ledesma, were heading southbound in a Ford Escape along Road 24. California Highway Patrol officers say Ledesma ran a stop sign at Avenue 7 and crossed the intersection, where her Ford was broadsided by a westbound Toyota, driven by 25-year-old Alejandra Arias Canela, of Firebaugh.
Canela was believed to be traveling at speeds of about 60 mph. The impact sent both vehicles off the southwest corner of the intersection where it struck a power pole and a concrete irrigation structure.
Firefighters were dispatched to the crash site and called to extricate the woman and her daughter before rushing them to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. Canela was shuttled to Madera Community Hospital with moderate injuries.
CHP officers do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but a follow-up investigation is underway.
