Christina Garcia Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Hyperion Avenue Near Fountain Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 17, 2019) – A wife and mother of three was left with fatal injuries Wednesday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run vehicle in the 1800 block of Hyperion Avenue near Fountain Avenue.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. just before firefighters and the Los Angeles Police Department were dispatched to the scene to find the body of 57-year-old Christina Garcia.
Garcia was standing on the sidewalk, believed to be collecting cans at the time, when she was struck by a driver of a four-door sedan who lost control on Hyperion Avenue. The car was captured on surveillance video crossing the northbound lanes and hitting a parking sign and trash cans before striking Garcia. The driver exited the vehicle after sitting in the car for several seconds and inspected the damage before hopping back in and driving away.
The cover of the driver’s side mirror was uncovered at the scene, leading police to believe the car is a 2010 to 2012 Toyota Corolla model.
Now the family is pleading for the suspect to come forward. A $50,000 reward is attached to any information leading to the arrest and whereabouts of the driver.
To those mourning this dreadful and sudden loss of Christina Garcia, we’d like to express our sympathies and thoughts to you.
