Christopher Alonzo Arrested in Single-Vehicle DUI Crash in State Route 85 in Buckeye
Buckeye, AZ (September 13, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, one child died and five other children sustained injuries in a DUI solo-vehicle crash on State Route 85.
Subsequently, police arrested the suspected DUI driver, the foster dad, 35-year-old Christopher Alonzo.
The fatal crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. on September 11.
According to the court documents, Alonzo’s car drifted to the left side of the road, crossing two lanes. The car then began to spin to the right, where it later crossed a canal and rolled over.
Three children were thrown from the car and the two children remained. The sixth child died on the scene after being thrown from the car. Five children had serious injuries and were taken to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Moreover, Alonzo and his wife were also inside the car at the time of the crash. His wife was also ejected from the vehicle.
The children said Alonzo and his wife were drinking earlier that day and were physically striking each other while driving.
Authorities arrested Alonzo on September 12 on five counts of endangerment, five counts of aggravated assault with serious physical injury, and one count of reckless manslaughter.
