Charles Taylor Jr. Dies Due to Medical Emergency Following Car Collision at Deschutes Way Southwest and E Street Southwest
TUMWATER, WA (July 3, 2019) – A 36-year-old man died from a medical event following a police pursuit crash at Deschutes Way Southwest and E Street Southwest Monday.
The Thurston County Coroner’s Office identified Charles M. Taylor Jr. as the involved suspect in the 5:20 p.m. police pursuit.
According to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, the chase unfolded when a deputy saw a vehicle driving erratically on the 5 North Freeway. The deputy tried pursuing the vehicle yet became unsuccessful.
A Washington State Patrol Trooper attempted to deploy a tire deflation device, which also failed due to the unruly driver; however, fortunately, the chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle struck a retaining wall at Deschutes Way Southwest and E Street Southwest.
The relentless suspect then fled from the vehicle and ran to a local business plaza where business patrons cornered him in a parking lot. Shortly after, a County Sheriff’s deputy took him into custody without incident.
Unfortunately, the suspect identified as Taylor appeared to have suffered a medical event as the deputy was walking him back to another patrol vehicle. Taylor died at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia moments later.
Back at the scene, police interviewed a 43-year-old woman riding with Taylor, yet her involvement remains unclear. Still, the incident remains under investigation by officials.
