NORWALK, CA (July 2, 2019) – A Cerritos man lost his life Tuesday morning following a chain-reaction crash on 605 Freeway. Authorities withheld the identity of the 52-year-old victim, pending notification of next of kin.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Alondra Boulevard, at about 3:00 AM. A 2010 Kia Soul failed to slow down for stopped traffic and slammed into the rear of a 1995 Toyota Camry. The impact of the collision caused the Toyota to hit the 2018 Freightliner truck in front of it.

Emergency responders pronounced the Kia driver, who was not secured in a seatbelt, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the Toyota driver, 68-year-old Manuel Guerrero of La Puente, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. The driver of the big rig, identified as 57-year-old Ki Ho Baek of La Puente, did not sustain injuries.

Investigators encourage witnesses to call Officer M. Dulong at (562) 868-0503 as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
