Carolyn Allen Dead, James Boswell Detained in Pedestrian Collision on Butterfield Road at Caletta Avenue
SAN ANSELMO, CA (April 29, 2019) – A woman and her dog died in Saturday’s DUI pedestrian accident on Butterfield Road at Caletta Avenue.
According to reports, 72-year-old Carolyn Allen was walking her two dogs – a terrier named Riley and poodle named Danny.
As they crossed Butterfield Road at Caletta Avenue, a northbound vehicle struck all three of them.
According to neighbors, the car hit Allen – described as a youthful spirit and Minnesota native – in the crosswalk. Heartbreakingly, her husband rushed out to find his family in the street as the suspect tried hiding.
Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced Allen and one dog dead at the scene. Medics rushed the second canine to a pet hospital with a broken leg.
At the scene, police arrested 30-year-old James Boswell, of San Anselmo, for driving under the influence. Boswell was booked at Marin County Jail on charges of felony DUI and felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
