8 Hurt After Driver Plows Into Thermal Building During Memorial Event
THERMAL, CA (December 30, 2019)— Eight people suffered minor to major injuries after a driver crashed into a building on Martinez Road near 66th Avenue Thursday evening.
According to a Cal Fire spokesman, the incident happened around 5:09 p.m. A 21-year-old driver of a vehicle plowed into the building for unknown reasons, consequently causing significant damage.
The single-vehicle crash into the tribal hall resulted in significant damage.
Following the accident, paramedics evaluated 11 people; however, three of them sustained no injuries. Eight victims, including four with minor injuries and three with moderate injuries, required hospitalization. Moreover, one of the eight suffered serious injuries.
The 21-year-old driver was among those injured. However, police did not provide an update of their condition.
Police are uncertain as to what caused the crash, but an ongoing investigation continues. Following the collision, patrons gathered along the 66000 block of Martinez Road during a memorial service.
