Motorist Dies in Calistoga DUI Wreck
CALISTOGA, AC (December 28, 2018) – Authorities are investigating a DUI crash that claimed a driver’s life Wednesday morning on Highway 128 near Spencer Lane.
According to reports, officers found an empty and significantly damaged 1991 Acura TL on Highway 128 just after midnight. A preliminary investigation led authorities to believe that the car was traveling eastbound before it veered toward the south edge and crashed into a power pole and tree. At the scene, however, officers found no one in or near the vehicle.
Shortly after, police learned that the 26-year-old Calistoga man who was driving the Acura contacted a friend to pick him up and bring him to St. Helena Hospital. When officers arrived at the hospital, they arrested the man on suspicion of DUI; however, due to his severe injuries, he was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center where he died the next morning.
The fateal victim will be identified once the next of kin has been notified.
