Pedestrian Hit by Multiple Vehicles at Highway 50/Interstate 80 Split Identified
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (July 5, 2019) – Authorities identified 42-year-old Bryce Alan Schanback as the pedestrian killed at the eastbound Highway 50/Interstate 80 split, Friday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 4:45 AM. Due to unknown reasons, Schanback attempted to cross the freeway, where multiple vehicles hit him.
Emergency responders pronounced Schanback, a transient from the Bay Area, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, four vehicles, including a 2013 Peterbilt big rig and a 2014 Hiro delivery truck, stopped while their drivers cooperated with investigators. However, the exact number of vehicles involved remains unknown.
CHP continues to investigate the incident, with no criminal charges substantiated and no evidence that alcohol or drugs were factors. Officers encourage witnesses to contact the CHP Woodland Area office at (530) 662-4685 as soon as possible.
