2 Dead in Chula Vista Auto Accident on Interstate 5 near E Street

CHULA VISTA, CA (November 16, 2023) – Saturday morning, a brutal rollover crash on Interstate 50 near E Street killed 2 people.

The incident happened at around 3:02 a.m. on Interstate 5 near E Street in the Chula Vista area, Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol revealed.

According to reports, as a 27-year-old woman drove a black BMW X5 with a 22-year-old male passenger on I-5 northbound, the BMW veered off the roadway and overturned.

The impact caused the roof of the BMW to come off, ejecting both the driver and passenger from the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man driving a white Ford Mustang crashed into the back of the overturned BMW that was blocking the roadway.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the occupants of the BMW were declared dead, Castro confirmed. Moreover, the Ford driver, who was determined to not be under the influence, stayed at the crash site and has been cooperative with law enforcement.

Furthermore, authorities closed down the three right lanes of the I-5 for around three hours.

Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed any identities of the victims due to pending family notification.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
