1 Dead in Port Aransas Boat Accident at Aransas Pass and Lydia Ann Channel
PORT ARANSAS, TX (July 14, 2024) – Early Saturday morning, a brutal boat crash at Aransas Pass and Lydia Ann Channel killed 1 person.
According to U.S. Coast Guard Port Aransas Chief Anthony Sofo, an active search is underway for a 24-year-old man with light brown hair and blue eyes near the Port Aransas Ship Channel. He was reportedly in the water following a crash involving his boat and a tank ship.
Reports said that the incident led to one fatality and two individuals with non-life-threatening injuries. The search continues for the fourth man. Sofo noted that the families of all men involved in the crash have been notified.
U.S. Coast Guard Captain Torrey Bertheau emphasized, “We will not stop searching until we find him.”
The crash was reported at 6 a.m., with four men on the boat at the intersection of Aransas Pass and the Lydia Ann Channel.
“The Coast Guard immediately took action, provided a broadcast, launched a helicopter, launched a small boat from the Station Port Aransas, and took three people that were recovered from the water to Station Port Aransas,” said Bertheau.
Investigations into the serious marine incident are ongoing. Bertheau stated, “At the same time we do not know the cause but we’re investigating. But our primary, top priority is search and rescue trying to locate the one individual that is unaccounted for.”
According to the Port Aransas Ferry Transportation, the ferry remains operational during the search.
