2 Dead in Chambers County Vehicle Crash on State Highway 124 and FM 1985

CHAMBERS COUNTY, TX (August 14, 2023) – Saturday, a brutal auto accident on State Highway 124 and FM 1985 killed 2 people.

The incident happened when a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed hit a tractor towing farming equipment.

According to reports, a dangerous vehicle drove erratically at a high rate of speed traveling from the beach on SH 124 through High Island, then westbound on FM 1985 from SH 124.

As the deputies and troopers searched for the vehicle, it hit a large tractor towing farming equipment while driving westbound on FM 1985 near the East Bay Bayou.

Chambers County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Troopers came to the scene and found the vehicle fully engulfed in fire.

Then, one person in the vehicle managed to get out and was flown from the scene by helicopter for medical treatment. Then, two others inside the vehicle were found dead.

Responders transported the driver of the tractor by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
