RIVERSIDE, CA (February 13, 2024) – Monday morning, a brutal 5-vehicle crash on Interstate 215 and MLK Boulevard killed 1 person.

The incident occurred at 2:20 a.m. on southbound Interstate 215, south of MLK Boulevard.

Officers confirmed that five sedans crashed in the middle of the freeway. Riverside Fire Department crews responded to the scene and declared one victim, whose identity was not immediately released, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, another motorist suffered unspecified injuries.

Also, the crash scattered debris throughout lanes, leading to a closure of all but the HOV lane on the southbound side.

Moreover, the authorities issued a SigAlert at 2:40 a.m. due to the shutdown and ensuing traffic jam.

Then, they started reopening lanes at daybreak, but the closure was not fully lifted until after 9 a.m.

Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information to contact the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
