Briseda Herrera and Nicholas Herrera Killed, Couple Injured in Highway 63 Crash Near Avenue 336
VISALIA, CA (May 15, 2019) – Two people died after crashing into a semi-truck on Highway 63 near Avenue 336 Monday morning.
According to reports, a southbound Honda Civic driver failed to notice the car ahead of her slow down to make a left into a neighborhood.
The Honda driver ended up traveling into the northbound lane at approximately 8 a.m., in a possible attempt to pass up the vehicle. There, it slammed into the northbound Peterbilt semi-truck.
The semi-truck, brimming with lemons, caused considerable damage to the Honda, severing it in half and lodging it beneath its trailer.
The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims as 29-year-old Briseda Herrera and 12-year-old Nicholas Herrera. Reports did not clearly specify their relationship.
Evidence at the scene led authorities to believe the Honda was dragged several yards away.
The crash caused a plume of dust to create poor visibility for a Toyota driver. Subsequently, the Toyota also slammed into the big rig, causing injuries to a couple inside.
The semi-truck driver escaped injury and harm, say reports.
A follow-up investigation is necessary to determine the ultimate cause of the accident.
