Santa Ana Hit-and-Run on Newhope Street Kills Cyclist
SANTA ANA, CA (November 5, 2019) — A hit-and-run on Newhope Street left a bicyclist dead in Santa Ana early Monday morning.
The incident happened near Iglesia De La Comunidad at about 3:00 a.m. according to the Santa Ana police.
Corporal Brett Nelson said they received a call about a pedestrian on the roadway in the 300 block of Newhope Street. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man in the middle of the street with extensive injuries, along with a heavily damaged bicycle.
The Orange County fire crew also responded to the incident. They tried to save the man’s life but later pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim was believed to be 52 years old. His name has not been released. The investigators said he was either walking alongside or riding a bike on the road when he was hit.
Meanwhile, the driver fled in an unidentified vehicle which likely sustained some damage in the front, the police said. The officers believed that alcohol was a factor in the fatal collision.
