Man Dies in Ambulance Crash Shortly After Being Hit While Biking in Turlock
TURLOCK, CA (July 29, 2019) – A man tragically died Thursday when a bicycle crash put him in an ambulance, which a driver struck at North Golden State Boulevard and West Monte Vista Avenue.
According to reports, the incident unfolded around 9:12 p.m. The bicyclist suffered serious injuries when a car struck him near East Hawkeye and North Olive avenues.
Medics arrived and began transporting him to a hospital. However, as the ambulance made its way, another driver struck the ambulance at North Golden State Boulevard and West Monte Vista Avenue.
Due to the impact, the ambulance overturned on its side, prompting paramedics to contact another ambulance to rush the man to a hospital as intended.
However, the victim died moments later.
The crash also left five others, including two Turlock firefighters riding in the ambulance, with injuries.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has reopened.
Their injuries range from moderate to severe, say reports. At this time, the condition of the driver who struck the ambulance is unclear.
