Driver Arrested in Deming Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
Deming, NM (November 28, 2024) – 69-year-old Kevin O’Leary was killed in a NM Highway 11 hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon.
The fatal bicycle crash happened around 1 p.m. on November 23 near milepost 8.
According to the authorities, a passing motorist noticed debris and a bicycle in the dirt off on the shoulder of the road. The motorist stopped to check the area and saw Kevin O’Leary dead near his bicycle.
Trooper said the suspect vehicle had fled the crash scene and there were no witnesses.
NMSP officers used license plate recognition system and determined the suspect vehicle as a 2011 red Cadillac sedan with front-end damage.
Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection then notified NMSP that a vehicle matching that description had crossed into Mexico at the Columbus port of entry.
The authorities later identified 33-year-old Noel Ronquillo Jr as the Cadillac driver. They arrested and took him into custody without incident on Monday, November 25.
Consequently, police charged Ronquillo with involuntary manslaughter and knowingly leaving an accident scene involving great bodily harm or death.
