Ian Martin Dies Moments After Being Struck by Vehicle in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (January 31, 2019) – 62-year-old bicyclist Ian Anthony Martin of Long Beach died Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car on Los Coyotes Diagonal at Palo Verde Avenue.
According to Long Beach Police, the crash happened just before 11:00 a.m. Police stated that the bicyclist was traveling northbound along Los Coyotes Diagonal’s bike lane when he cut across all lanes of traffic right before the intersection with Palo Verde Avenue and was struck by a southbound Toyota Corolla. Reports say the 2015 Toyota Corolla was in the No. 2 lane when it struck the man who crossed in a northwesterly direction.
The 88-year-old man from Long Beach operating the Corolla stayed at the scene and was questioned by authorities. Meanwhile, the victim was brought to a nearby hospital where, in spite of life-saving efforts, he died.
