Bicyclist Seriously Injured by Car on Belmont Avenue in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (July 5, 2019) – A bicyclist suffered serious injuries in Thursday’s crash with a car on Belmont Avenue near North Orchard Street.
According to Fresno Police Lt. Tim Tietjen, the incident unfolded around 7:00 p.m. on North Orchard Street. Police say the bicyclist failed to stop at the intersection’s stop sign at Belmont Avenue and North Orchard Street.
The rider continued to pedal forward and entered the roadway where a westbound vehicle struck him in the No. 2 lane of Belmont Avenue.
Due to the impact, the bicyclist flipped over and landed on the windshield. Paramedics arrived and transported him to Community Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
Per officers, an alcohol stench exuded from the bicyclist, leading them to believe that impairment might be a possible factor.
Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.
