Cyclist Dies in Rio Linda Car Crash
RIO LINDA, CA (May 14, 2019) – A bicyclist was fatally struck by a car on Elkhorn Boulevard near Cherry Lane Sunday night.
According to a news release, the fatal incident unfolded around 7:23 p.m. CHP stated that the 59-year-old Sacramento man died after being struck by a westbound Toyota minivan.
The minivan driver, who had a green light while traveling on Elkhorn Boulevard, struck the cyclist. In addition, the victim rode onto the street from the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail at the time of the impact.
A CHP news release further explained that the cyclist ran a red pedestrian signal.
Following the event, the 43-year-old Clovis driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigators.
In the investigation, authorities ruled out impairment as a possible factor and made no arrests.
