Good Samaritan Fatally Struck by SUV after Stopping to Aid Injured Motorists near 28th Street

SAN DIEGO, CA (November 1, 2018) – A woman was killed early Thursday morning after she was hit by a vehicle near 28th Street. The victim was later identified as 19-year-old Bertha Aida Estrada, a resident of San Diego.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a gray Mercedes sedan was rear-ended by a Honda Civic at about 1:45 AM.

Estrada pulled over onto the right shoulder of Highway 94 and ran across the freeway to check on the victims in the collision. While talking to the Mercedes driver, she was struck by a Jeep Patriot.

The impact of the collision knocked Estrada into the westbound lanes, where she may have been struck by another vehicle. Estrada suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. A GoFundMe page was created to assist her family with funeral expenses. Meanwhile, the occupants of the Mercedes and the driver of the Jeep were hospitalized with unspecified injuries. Updates on their current medical conditions were not immediately provided.
