Person Dies Following Chain Reaction Collision in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 2, 2019) – A four-car collision claimed the life of a driver Sunday night on Highway 58 near Highway 99.
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating what led to the deadly crash that happened around 6:30 p.m.
According to Sgt. John French, a black Honda was traveling in the slow lane of Highway 58 while a dark-colored Subaru was traveling behind it. In the middle lane, to the left of the Honda, was a silver Dodge pickup.
A silver Ford was approaching the three vehicles at a high rate of speed in the slow lane and reportedly veered to the left lane at the last second, clipping the Subaru’s left rear. That initial impact caused a chain reaction. The Ford ended up spinning out into the middle lane, where it was rear-ended by the Dodge pickup truck. The driver in the Honda ended up spiraling out into the center divider where it came to a stop. The Ford ended up traveling up the right shoulder where it came to a stop.
French reported that the driver of the Ford died in the crash. Everyone appeared to be wearing their seatbelts and drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a role in the crash.
Anyone who holds insight into this deadly collision is urged to call the Bakersfield CHP at (661) 396-6600.
