Athena Karan Killed in Indian Valley Reservoir Crash, Juan Torres Arrested for DUI
Clear Lake, CA (February 05, 2021) – On January 16th, 19-year-old Athena Karan of Santa Rosa lost her life in a deadly rollover crash at the Indian Valley Reservoir.
She was was a passenger in a Honda Talon, an all-terrain vehicle driven by 28-year-old Juan Torres who is also from Santa Rosa.
Apparently, it was her first time in an off-road vehicle, and the driver was a new friend.
Karan is a granddaughter of George Jung, who was played by Johnny Depp in the popular 2001 movie “Blow.”
Reports said Torres drove over a large road dip, which made him lose control and the vehicle rolled over.
Karan was sitting in the lap of another passenger when the accident happened. She was thrown from the vehicle and incurred major injuries.
Sadly, Athena Karan died at the scene.
Officers Arrest Juan Torres on Clear Lake DUI Crash
Moreover, authorities said Torres was operating the Talon “under the influence of an alcoholic beverage,”. They arrested and booked him into Lake County Jail. Though, they released him two days later after posting bail.
On Tuesday, the officers said they are charging Torres on two felony counts. one being gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Also, court fines and restitution to the victim’s family were included. Torres has not yet been arraigned or appointed legal counsel.
