Arturo Melendez Killed in Auto Accident on El Casco Street [Sylmar, CA]

58-Year-Old Male Pronounced Dead after Auto Accident near Glenoaks Boulevard Street in Sylmar

 
SYLMAR, CA (April 21, 2020) – Early Friday evening, 58-year-old Arturo Melendez of San Fernando, was struck and killed by a car on El Casco Street.
 
Authorities responded to the collision around 7:45 p.m., near Glenoaks Boulevard. Police say Melendez was participating in a food distribution event that aims to help struggling residents during the COVID-19 pandemic when a vehicle hit him.
 
As a result of the impact, he was pinned to another car.
 
Responding paramedics then took Melendez to an area hospital for further treatment of life-threatening injuries. However, he was later pronounced dead due to the extent of his condition.
 
Meanwhile, the involved driver remained on scene and has been cooperative with the authorities.
 
The surrounding area on El Casco Street was closed off for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened.
 
At this time, the crash remains under active investigation.
