Armando Canales Killed, Ashley Oliver Arrested Following DUI Accident on Highway 17 Near Redwood Estates
LOS GATOS, CA (May 13, 2019) – A Fremont boy died in a DUI head-on crash on Highway 17 near Redwood Estates early Saturday.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee, 28-year-old Ashley Marie Oliver, of San Jose, was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the highway.
Just after 2 a.m., her wrong-way minivan struck a southbound Toyota Corolla occupied by sixteen and 17-year-olds.
As a result of the impact, three Toyota occupants suffered major injuries. Armando Canales, a 16-year-old rear seat passenger, died at the scene. Reports confirmed that he had not been wearing a seat belt at the time.
Meanwhile, Oliver, 28, suffered minor injuries, and police booked her into the Santa Clara County Jail on felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
