Anca Romonti and Another Injured in Highway 14 Fatal Crash [Vancouver, WA]

Vancouver, WA (December 22, 2023) – Anca Romonti, 40, of Hillsboro, Oregon and an unnamed juvenile passenger were injured in a Highway 14 fatal crash Wednesday night.

WSP officers said Ryan Smith, 25, of Vancouver, was driving an eastbound 2007 Volvo S40 in the westbound lanes of the freeway minutes before 11 p.m. 

Smith struck a 2009 Mazda MX driven by Zion Farias Vasquez, 25, from The Dalles, Oregon.

Smith continued and struck a 2022 Volkswagen Passat driven by Anca Romonti.

Romonti’s vehicle then struck a Toyota Camry driven by Tong Nguyen, 68, with passengers Nho Huynh, 77, and Thu Nguyen Tran, 67, all from Vancouver.

Unfortunately, Smith died in this traffic accident.

Zion Farias Vasquez was wearing a seat belt during the collision and did not sustain injuries.

Both Romonti and the juvenile passenger were injured and transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. They were both wearing seat belts.

All four vehicles involved in the accident ended up blocking all westbound lanes of the freeway.

Troopers said drugs or alcohol were involved and DUI charges were referred against Farias Vasquez.
