Gilbert police say it happened just after 2 a.m. near Williams Field and Recker roads.

Officials say the crash happened when 23-year-old Harrison Ward was driving the wrong way on Williams Field Road at a high rate of speed. He crashed head-on into a four-door passenger car.

The driver of the car, identified as 20-year-old Anastasia Dombrowski, died at the scene.

Ward was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. He was later booked for second-degree murder and aggravated DUI.
