San Jose Woman Alyssa Roman Dead in DUI Accident on Highway 1, Richard Quihuis Jr Arrested
Santa Cruz, CA (April 15, 2021) – On Tuesday, police arrested 19-year-old Richard Quihuis Jr in a DUI crash on Highway 1 that killed a 19-year-old woman.
Officers saw Quihuis’s vehicle speeding on Highway 1 at 2 AM, north of Dimeo Lane. Police tried to stop him, but the vehicle continued speeding onto Mission Street.
Afterward, more officers assisted to stop the vehicle at Highway 1 and State Route 9; however, the vehicle continued traveling through the Highway 1 offramp.
Quihuis, the driver tried to exit on Morrissey Boulevard, but the vehicle struck a curb before running into a metal guard.
Quihuis tried to run away before officers caught him. Apparently, four San Jose residents were in his vehicle.
Moreover, the right-front passenger was able to get out on their own. Unfortunately, the vehicle started to catch fire and the two occupants in the back seats had to be extricated.
One of them, Alyssa Roman of San Jose, died at the scene, while everyone else in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested Quihuis Junior after he was treated. They charged him with felony DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony hit and run and felony evading a peace officer.
Police revealed the identity of one of the surviving passengers of the vehicle, Kenny Tran, 20.
