CHP Investigates Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99 in Atwater

Atwater, CA (March 10, 2022) – Thursday morning, 42-year-old Alex Ramos of Modesto sustained injuries in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 99.

The three-vehicle crash in Atwater happened at around 7:50 a.m. on March 10 just north of the Atwater Boulevard off-ramp.

CHP said the collision involved two big rigs and a sedan. Reportedly, one of the big rigs was hauling sulfuric acid. Behind the big rig was a Mercedes sedan driven by Ramos.

The other big rig, a 2016 Freightliner hauling a flat trailer was traveling behind the Mercedes and ended up colliding with the rear of the sedan wedging the vehicle between the two big rigs.

As a result, Ramos was pinned in the vehicle for about 30 minutes. EMS flew him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries.

Neither drugs nor alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Further investigation is ongoing.
