Albert Figurelli Identified in Fatal Head-On Crash in Pollock Pines

POLLOCK PINES, CA (January 04, 2019) – A 63-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision in Pollock Pines Wednesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred after 3 p.m. Wednesday on Pony Express Trail just west of Gilmore Road. 63-year-old Albert R. Figurelli of Pollock Pines was driving a 2000 Dodge 1500 pickup truck eastbound on Pony Express Trail when it drifted off of the roadway and then into the path of an oncoming El Dorado Transit bus operated by 50-year-old Sandi M. Ferguson of Placerville.

A preliminary investigation showed that Figurelli unsafely turned the Dodge to the left and entered oncoming westbound traffic, which triggered the head-on collision with the bus. Both vehicles were found resting in the westbound lane. Officials said conditions at the time of the incident were cool and dry.

Figurelli was pronounced dead at the scene. Ferguson was transported to Marshall Hospital in Placerville with a broken left hand.

CHP said drugs and/or alcohol may be a contributing factor in the collision which remains under investigation.

As CHP and other emergency personnel cleared and processed the scene, Pony Express Trail was closed to traffic for two and a half hours.
