Agustin Martinez Arrested in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on Temecula Valley Freeway [Murrieta, CA]

1 Person Dead in Murrieta Auto Accident on Temecula Valley Freeway near California Oaks Road

MURRIETA, CA (August 21, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, authorities arrested Agustin Martinez following a fatal single-vehicle crash on Temecula Valley Freeway.

The incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. on the southbound Temecula Valley Freeway, north of California Oaks Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a southbound 2006 Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed made an unsafe turn. Then, the driver lost control and veered towards the west roadway edge of southbound Interstate 15.

Then, the Honda Civic crashed into the dirt embankment. Also, the force of the crash ejected a 25-year-old passenger of the vehicle into the rear seating area of the vehicle.

Moreover, the Murrieta Fire Department pronounced the 25-year-old passenger of the Honda dead at the scene.

Furthermore, officers arrested the Honda driver, 23-year-old Martinez, on suspicion of DUI. Also, paramedics transported Martinez to Inland Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries.

At this time, the circumstances involved in the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
