Phoenix, AZ (December 19, 2024) – 37-year-old Adam Bates died in a crash on 43rd Avenue and Northern Avenue.
Phoenix police reported that authorities arrested a man who now faces manslaughter charges following a deadly crash in west Phoenix on Thursday night.
The collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Northern Avenue, which was shut down due to the incident.
Officials confirmed that 37-year-old Adam Bates died at the scene. Three other adults and a teenager sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospitals.
Investigators revealed that Bates was a passenger in a car struck by a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Richard McKinney.
The impact caused Bates’ vehicle to spin into oncoming traffic, colliding with a third car. Police suspect impairment contributed to the crash.
Emergency responders took McKinney to a nearby hospital before transferring him to jail.
He now faces charges of manslaughter, aggravated assault, and endangerment, according to Phoenix police.
