MODESTO, CA (April 2, 2019) – A DUI two-car collision on West Grayson and Vivian roads Sunday afternoon left eight people with injuries.
Two small children were among the eight victims in Sunday’s crash that occurred around 1:30 p.m.
Shortly before 1:30 p.m., 29-year-old Michel Medina collided with a 1994 Mazda B4000 while traveling west on Grayson Road. Seconds prior, 23-year-old Usbaldo Santos-Estrada failed to stop at the stop sign while traveling north on Vivian Road.
As a result, Santos-Estrada’s Mazda struck the driver’s side of Medina’s 2008 Saturn Outlook SUV. The impact caused the Mazda to flip and the Saturn to drive off the roadway into metal fencing.
Following the accident, paramedics transported both drivers and their passengers to nearby hospitals by helicopters and ambulances.
Medina, of Modesto, sought treatment at Turlock’s Emanuel Medical Center with major injuries. Hugo Medina, 3, and Adrian Medina, 2, suffered minor injuries in the SUV. Reports noted that paramedics transported Hugo to Emanuel Medical Center and airlifted Adrian to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Meanwhile, medics ushered Santos-Estrada to Doctors Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Subsequently, police arrested him on suspicion of DUI, as well as weapon possession charges.
Also, in the Mazda, 18-year-old Reyna Zamora, of Patterson, suffered major injuries and sought treatment at Doctors Medical Center.
To add to the total injured, 29-year-old Ricardo Ordaz, of Hughson; 26-year-old Ashley Garcia, of Waterford; and 18-year-old Claudia Hernandez, of Patterson, suffered minor injuries. While Ordaz and Garcia sought medical attention at Memorial Medical Center, nurses treated Hernandez at Doctors Medical Center.
