Girl, 6, Drowns in Altadena Summercamp
ALTADENA, CA (July 2, 2019) – A child tragically drowned Friday morning at a summer camp on Fair Oaks Avenue near McNally Avenue.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. When first responders arrived in the 3600 block of Fair Oaks Avenue, they determined that a 6-year-old girl had drowned.
Moments prior, a lifeguard witnessed an unresponsive child in the swimming pool, which prompted the lifeguard to contact paramedics.
Paramedics rushed the 6-year-old to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition. On Monday morning, the Altadena sheriff’s station confirmed her fatality.
According to reports, authorities are still investigating this incident as accidental.
Summerkids, located on a 57-acre property in the Angeles National Forest, has been around since 1978. Reports noted that this is the first incident of its kind to occur in the camp’s 41-year history.
