5-Year-Old Tony Tran Killed in Interstate 10 Collision [San Antonio, TX]

San Antonio, TX (July 6, 2023) – At about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 5-year-old Tony Tran was killed and officers arrested 22-year-old Doan Khanh Thuc Mai in an Interstate 10 collision.

San Antonio police said the crash unfolded on the southbound lanes of the freeway near West Avenue.

According to an initial report, a Nissan Rogue was on the southbound lanes of the highway when the driver, Doan Khanh Thuc Mai, suddenly pressed the brakes.

As a result, the Rogue was rear-ended by a Hyundai Santa Fe. The Nissan was redirected to another lane and was struck on its passenger side by a Dodge Ram.

Tran who sitting in the back seat of the vehicles was thrown from the vehicle. The paramedics rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Investigating officers said Tran was not in a safety seat.

Doan Khanh Thuc Mai was charged with manslaughter.
