4 Hurt in Fiery Solo-Car Accident near Cajon View Drive in La Mesa
LA MESA, CA (March 27, 2019) – Four people suffered serious injuries Monday in a fiery single-car accident on Avocado Avenue near Cajon View Drive.
When firefighters arrived in the 1500 block of Avocado Avenue around 9 p.m., they found four passengers ejected from the minivan. Authorities identified those injured as patients in their teens or early 20s.
State officials say the crash involved two 24-year-old men, a 22-year-old woman and a 15-year-old. All victims are expected to survive their injuries.
The El Cajon Police Department said the 2008 Toyota minivan crashed into a rock embankment and overturned multiple times. Subsequently, the minivan ruptured into flames.
Investigators surmised that the vehicle crashed as it headed north on Avocado Avenue faster than the 45-mph limit. Yet, investigators are looking into why the driver lost control.
A wooden utility pole also caught on fire due to the impact. The Heartland Fire Department eventually extinguished the fire upon arrival.
Driving at excessive speeds is dangerous, especially if you’re not familiar with the roadway system. We never know when we might approach curves on roadways, which is why we must abide by the posted speed limit and road signs. Always be prepared for trouble and drive carefully.
