Power Pole Falls Onto Vehicle, Causing Crash in San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 11, 2020)—Three people escaped major injuries after a power pole toppled onto a vehicle, causing a crash on the 880 Freeway near the 238 Freeway Sunday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:13 a.m. when a power pole toppled onto a red Toyota Prius.
Three occupants inside the Toyota did not suffer any major injuries in the crash.
Following the accident, officials issued a Sig Alert at 11:53 a.m. due to the downed power lines. By 1:21 p.m., authorities opened all lanes of traffic.
The cause of the 880 Freeway crash might have to do with Sunday’s high winds that brought down multiple power lines and caused widespread outages in the Bay Area.
