Stephanie Berkell Montoya Arrested in Laguna Beach DUI Crash
Laguna Beach, CA (August 26, 2020) – On Sunday, three people including a child were injured in a DUI crash on Pearl Street and South Coast Highway.
Subsequently, police arrested the 28-year-old Stephanie Berkell Montoya of Chula Vista.
The incident took place before 5 PM.
The Daily Pilot News said Montoya was driving a vehicle southbound on Pearl Street. She approached the South Coast Highway junction and allowed the vehicle to swerved off the roadway. Just then, her car struck two parked vehicles on the west side of the road.
Montoya’s car flipped over to its roof due to the impact of the crash. Responding teams found her vehicle at rest in the middle of two southbound lanes.
Moreover, authorities confirmed that two passengers of Montoya, an adult female and a child, both sustained injuries due to the crash.
Immediately, paramedics transported the patients to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo for treatment of unknown extent of trauma.
Meanwhile, officials said Montoya fled the scene on foot. They later found her near Ruby Street and South Coast Highway.
Montoya also received treatment for non-fatal injuries she sustained from the crash. After being medically cleared, the authorities arrested Montoya on suspicion of a felony DUI causing injury, child endangerment, a felony hit and run, driving with a suspended license and DUI while on probation for a DUI.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
