Benton County, WA (November 16, 2021) – Earlier today, a 26-year-old Prosser man suffered injuries while officers arrested a teen driver in a vehicle crash on Interstate 82.
The crash occurred around 7:46 a.m. near the exit to Richland.
A 17-year-old Benton City driver trailed the Prosser man as he drove a late-90s Honda Accord.
The Prosser driver slowed for traffic, however, the teen drove distracted on the roadway. The teen driver did not leave enough space and collided with the Accord.
Rescuers rushed the Prosser man to Kadlec Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Meanwhile, officers said intoxicants like drugs and alcohol weren’t a factor in the accident. However, the Benton City teen faces a negligent driving charge. The teen driver did not incur injuries in this accident. Though, his vehicle was massively damaged.
When driving, better to scan the road 1/2 mile to a full mile ahead in order to look out or recognize potential hazards in time. Our bodies weren’t designed to travel at 50mph. We were designed for speeds of less than 10mph. Thus, you need to learn to consciously break that natural instinct and focus farther ahead.

Moreover, driving is essential for many in order to move about in their lives, however, it is one of the most dangerous activities we do every day. As often these accidents happen, many people do not know what follows in the event of a car accident.
Furthermore, according to the United States Department of Transportation, there are approximately 300,000 merging accidents every year.
So, in case of accidents like this one, it is crucial that everyone remain calm in order to properly handle the immediate aftermath of an automobile collision.
Meanwhile, here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving and avoid accidents:
– Always drive at a controllable speed.
– Never assume you know the other driver’s intention.
– Also, be prepared to positively react to other drivers.
– This one, we should never neglect: yield at intersections, even if you have right of way.
– Most importantly, stay focused on the road. Remove all distractions such as mobile phones unstrapped toddlers, etc.
