Jose Lazo Cited After Semi-Truck Crash on South Hart Road in Othello

Othello, WA (November 14, 2024) – A crash on South Hart Road involving a semi-truck on South Hart Road carrying apples injured two teenagers from Warden on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred around 9:15 a.m. when 33-year-old Jose Lazo of Tieton, driving northbound on South Hart Road, approached the intersection with State Route 24. 

According to State Troopers, Lazo failed to stop at the stop sign and attempted to turn left onto SR 24. Slippery road conditions caused his semi-truck to slide straight through the intersection.

As Lazo’s truck entered the intersection, a Cadillac driven by a 17-year-old from Warden, carrying two passengers—an 18-year-old and another 17-year-old—collided with the side of the semi-truck. 

The impact caused Lazo’s truck to overturn on the opposite side of South Hart Road, spilling its load of apples. 

The 17-year-old driver and the 18-year-old backseat passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Othello Community Hospital for treatment. 

Lazo was uninjured but was cited for negligent driving.
