Fatalities Reported in Sutter County Accident on Highway 20 and North Humphrey Road

SUTTER COUNTY, CA (July 7, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, two people died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 20 and North Humphrey Road.

The incident involving three vehicles occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on Highway 20 and North Humphrey Road.

Yuba-Sutter CHP spokesman Joshua Oglesby revealed that the crash involved a sand and gravel big rig with two trailers, a Nissan Titan, and a GMC 3500.

Oglesby revealed that the big rig was heading west on Highway 20. Meanwhile, the Nissan and GMC were driving east. Then, the Nissan “for an unknown reason” maneuvered into the westbound lane into the path of the gravel truck.

However, further evidence revealed a different story. Oglesby then clarified that video footage from the big rig revealed that the driver of the GMC struck the back of the Nissan. The impact caused the Nissan driver to lose control. Then, the driver steered into the westbound lane.

Oglesby added that the gravel truck’s front struck the passenger side of the Nissan. As a result, the Nissan spun out of control. The impact led the Titan’s cabin to detach from the cargo bed. Also, the vehicle caught fire.

Meanwhile, the GMC driving behind the Nissan attempted to veer to the right and hit the brakes to avoid the crash. However, it struck the Nissan’s cargo bed.

After the crash, the vehicles blocked both lanes of the freeway. Also, the driver and passenger of the Nissan sustained fatal injuries.

Moreover, responders took the GMC and big rig driver to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.

By 3:30 p.m., Highway 20 remained closed in the area. Also, the Sutter County Fire Department responded to the scene.

With heavy hearts, Sweet Lawyers sends our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the victims.
