Injuries Reported in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident on Niles Street and Catalpa Way

BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 30, 2021) – Monday morning, a 7-year-old boy and a 44-year-old woman suffered injuries in a crash on Niles Street and Catalpa Way.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 a.m. on Niles Street at Catalpa Way.

Upon the officers’ arrival, they found out that an SUV hit two pedestrians. Then, the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene.

Reports confirmed that the SUV driver headed south on Catalpa Way. As they turned left onto eastbound Niles Street, the woman and the boy crossed Niles Street. They crossed the street in a northerly direction within a marked crosswalk.

However, the SUV’s female driver entered the intersection and didn’t see the pedestrians in the crosswalk. She veered left and hit both pedestrians.

As a result, the 44-year-old woman received minor injuries and the young boy received major injuries. Responders took them to Kern Medical Hospital.

Alcohol and drugs didn’t play a role in the crash.
