Man, Woman Injured in ATV Accident in Silverdale
SILVERDALE, WA (May 22, 2019) – Two people suffered serious injuries in an ATV accident Sunday afternoon on Dickey Road Northwest near Hoot Ridge Lane Northwest.
According to news reports, a 58-year-old man was operating the ATV with a 19-year-old female passenger. The pair had been traveling in a gravel pit area in the 8000 block of Dickey Road Northwest.
Traveling at a high rate of speed on a gravel road, the man reportedly failed to complete a left turn and veered off the road. Subsequently, the ATV went airborne for nearly 30 feet before landing and rolling an additional 50 feet.
Paramedics arrived and quickly airlifted the male operator to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Medics brought the woman to Tacoma General Hospital with serious injuries.
Although officers smelled alcohol on the man, they had to hold back on a sobriety test due to the urgency of his medical care.
Investigators are looking into this crash further.
It’s a no brainer that alcohol and drugs can place us in danger when behind the wheel. If you’re impaired, avoid operating a car, motorcycle, bicycle or ATV. This can leave more room for danger and put you in harm’s way. Remember this the next time you decide to drink.
