Double Fatality Following Multi-Vehicle Collision in El Monte
EL MONTE, CA (November 18, 2019)—Two people lost their lives in Sunday’s 10 Freeway multi-car crash near Valley Boulevard.
According to authorities, three people sustained minor injuries in the collision that occurred around 5:20 a.m.
It happened when a 52-year-old woman operating a 2003 Acura crashed into the concrete center divider for unknown reasons. The Acura came to a halt between the No. 1 and carpool lanes, where a 35-year-old man operating a 2019 Ford crashed into it. As a result, the woman was ejected from the Acura onto the freeway.
Subsequently, a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 25-year-old man from West Covina, rammed into the 2019 Ford, ejecting him onto the street. Shortly after, a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350, a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck and a 2017 Honda Accord plowed into the Acura.
As a result of the crash, the woman driving the Acura and the biker—both residents of West Covina—died at the scene. Officials have yet to determine whether impairment played a role.
Crews issued is Sig Alert at 5:36 a.m. and closed all westbound lanes as investigations took place. Anyone with information regarding this crash should call the California Highway Patrol’s East Los Angeles office at 323-343-0512.
