Fiery 5 Freeway Crash Claims Two Lives in Encinitas

 
ENCINITAS, CA (October 28, 2019) — Police responded to a fatal 5 Freeway crash involving two vehicles near Leucadia Boulevard on Sunday.
 
The two-car accident occurred around 1:43 a.m., according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Per witnesses at a nearby hotel, a van stopped in the northbound fast lane for unknown reasons right before another vehicle struck it.
 
CHP later confirmed that the two occupants in the van died. As a result of the crash, Caltrans San Diego closed off the northbound lanes for more than 90 minutes. Whether or not the other driver sustained any injuries has not been disclosed.
 
At this time, it is unknown what drove the collision, but CHP officials are investigating the incident further.
