Man Hospitalized After Crash on Highway 101 in Sequim

Sequim, WA (November 14, 2024) – A crate carrying five Husky puppies fell off a pickup truck Tuesday night after a crash on Highway 101.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Katherine Weathermax reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when a family, in the process of moving, failed to properly secure the crate. 

The unsecured crate fell from their truck and was struck by a vehicle near milepost 259 on Highway 101.

The impact caused two of the puppies to run away, while one was fatally injured. The remaining two puppies were taken to a veterinarian in Poulsbo for treatment. 

The driver of the vehicle that struck the crate sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The crate’s owner, a 70-year-old man from Port Gamble, received an infraction for transporting an unsecured load. 

Trooper Weathermax confirmed that no criminal charges will be filed, as the incident has been deemed unintentional.

Weathermax emphasized the importance of properly securing all cargo, regardless of its type, to prevent accidents and ensure safety on the road.
