Driver Dies in Hesperia 2-Vehicle Collision on 15 Freeway
HESPERIA, CA (November 26, 2018) — A person was killed Saturday morning after a collision between a tanker truck and a sedan in the northbound lanes of the 15 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 11:47 a.m. just south of the Oak Hill Road off-ramp.
The driver of the 2004 Subaru WRX was reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed along the right shoulder of the freeway before it crashed with the tanker truck. When emergency responders reached the scene, they found the driver had died inside the vehicle. The Subaru sustained major damage.
Following the crash, the cab of the tanker truck was fully engulfed in flames. Emergency responders located the driver of the truck lying on the shoulder of the freeway surrounded by other motorists who helped the driver.
A Hazmat team was called to the scene to determine what chemicals the tanker was carrying.
A Sig-Alert was issued after the crash, prompting the closure of all lanes of the 15 Freeway except for the fast lane. All lanes have since reopened.
