Driver Dies in DUI Collision in Brentwood
BRENTWOOD, CA (May 7, 2019) – A DUI head-on crash on Highway 4 near Balfour Road Monday afternoon claimed a driver’s life and left another arrested.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-car accident involved a 2018 Honda SUV and 2013 Toyota Corolla.
Around 4:30 p.m., a 46-year-old Concord man operating the Honda was driving westbound on the highway but veered over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. There, it collided head-on with the Toyota driver, causing considerable damage to both vehicles.
Reports confirmed that the 51-year-old Toyota driver, from Ripon, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities located no one else inside his vehicle.
Meanwhile, authorities investigated the solo male driver of the Honda. After conducting a field sobriety test, police arrested the Concord man for suspicion of felony DUI.
As officers arrested the suspected driver, crews issued a Sigalert in both directions around 4:50 p.m. Nearly two hours later, all lanes were reopened to traffic.
