Passenger Killed, 2 Others Injured in Bay Bridge Rear-End Collision
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 30, 2019) – A passenger died while two other people sustained injuries in a Bay Bridge collision involving a box truck and a bus Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said that a box truck rear-ended a Golden Gate Transit bus on the Bay Bridge at about 4:30 a.m.
A passenger in the box truck died in the collision. The truck driver and a second passenger suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. On the other hand, none of the passengers on the bus were hospitalized.
According to Sgt. Robert Powers, officers are conducting a criminal investigation due to the serious nature of the crash.
The box truck was uprighted at about 7:30 a.m. In the meantime, commuters and drivers experienced delays in traffic on westbound 80 Freeway, east of Treasure Island Road. Officers issued an advisory to look for alternate routes. Subsequently, they reopened all lanes before noon.
According to Priya Clemens, a spokeswoman for the Golden Gate Bridge, the bus was considered a BART bus. It operates between El Cerrito Del Norte and the Salesforce Transit Center.
