Driver Dies After Crash on Marquette and Espanola in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, NM (July 17, 2024) – On Wednesday, one person died, and one other sustained critical injuries in a crash on Marquette and Espanola.

At around 4:25 PM, a stolen white Infiniti SUV reportedly crashed into another car at Marquette and Espanola. The driver of the stolen vehicle allegedly fled the scene on foot. 

Both the fleeing driver and another person in the stolen SUV were detained by officers for investigation.

The crash impact reportedly pinned the innocent driver inside her car. When officers from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) arrived, they found the driver unresponsive and without a pulse. 

APD officers requested that Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) expedite their response. While AFR worked to extricate the female driver from her vehicle, she eventually had a faint pulse. 

An APD officer at the scene requested that the APD’s Fatal Crash Team start an investigation.

While on the scene, we learned that the driver of the red SUV struck by the stolen white Infiniti SUV died during transport to the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH). 

Streets in the area were blocked off to allow APD’s Fatal Crash Team to conduct their investigation.

We later confirmed that the driver of the red SUV died at the scene, and another occupant in the red SUV was taken to UNMH in critical condition.
